Grace M Dougherty (nee Schaible) retiree of Whitehall Lab in Hammonton passed away September 5, 2019. Born in North Philadephia to a family of loving parents, Gertrude E. Schaible (nee Welker) and Fred C. Schaible. 2 sisters Marion & Viola. 5 brothers Vincent, Robert (Frank), George, Harry, Albert. Grace never knew her sisters as they passed away before she was born. All 5 brothers were in the military and she was the youngest. Grace went to McClure Elementary School on to Giuseppe Jr. HS then to Simon Gratz Sr. HS. The last 5 years of her schooling she was a gym leader and member of the swim team. She wanted to be a Health and Gym teacher. Back then the government didn’t have “grant aid” to fund college tuition so her dreams fell by the wayside. Grace worked in the Phila. Navy Yard during the war in the # 31 shop in the receiving Dept. She was a swimmer, dancer, hiker, ice skater and any other sport that came along, she was there. Grace married her husband Bob in 1950 and moved to Barrington, NJ in 1956. She had 2 sons Bob and Craig. In 1961 she moved to Wharton Park and made new friends having get togethers and picnics at the Hammonton Lake. You were able to swim in the lake back then and ice skate in the winter when it was frozen. In 1975 Grace and Bob and son Craig moved to Hammonton, her son Bob and wife Brenda lived in Mays Landing. Grace belonged to the Hollywood East fitness center, Hammonton Canoe club where she and her husband enjoyed dancing, sports, movies, the beach and social gatherings. Her son Craig passed away in 1987 and her husband passed away in 2005.She is survived by her son Bob and wife Brenda.3 grandchildren Robert and wife Nicole, Jennifer, Toni and her husband Lee. 4 great-grandchildren Craig, Cole, Cade, Quinn. There were nieces and nephews scattered around the country Phila., VA, NJ, Bucks Co., Media, TX., New Orleans, MA. Her nephew Raymond Schaible retired from the military after 22 years of Service as a Colonel. He and his wife Pat live in VA and their 2 married daughters live close by. Funeral Service will held Saturday September 14, 2019 11AM at the St. James Lutheran Church Folsom, NJ 1341 Mays Landing Road. Visitation from _1030 – 11 AM at the church. Interment immediately to follow in the St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. James Lutheran Church 1341 Mays Landing Road Folsom, NJ 08037
